Labour Party Issues Ultimatum to Presidential Candidate Peter Obi over Academic Record Controversy.
The Labour Party (LP) has set a 48-hour ultimatum for its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to publicly disclose his academic records and address discrepancies in his certificates. Failure to comply within the given timeframe could result in his suspension from the party, according to a statement by the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi.

In the statement released on Tuesday, Arabambi strongly condemned Tanko Yinusa, the spokesperson for the Peter Obi/Datti Ahmed presidential campaign council, for dismissing allegations that Peter Obi had impersonated his late elder brother.

Arabambi raised several pertinent questions, including the identity of the alleged elder brother, the circumstances of his passing, and the names on various certificates attributed to Peter Obi.
The LP’s demands included seeking answers to why Peter Obi’s birth certificate displayed a different name than his school certificate and why the name on his school certificate differed from that on his University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) certificate.

The party also questioned the discrepancies between the name on Peter Obi’s National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) certificate and his UNN certificate. Furthermore, the LP inquired about the university where Peter Obi had completed his mandatory one-year NYSC service.
Arabambi emphasized, “One would have expected Peter Obi to offer a satisfactory response to Nigerians as to the reasons for explicit discrepancies in his academic records to reveal his true identity and save our party from further avoidable national embarrassment.” He went on to accuse Peter Obi of failing to address these concerns and instead resorting to political maneuvering.
The LP stressed that no evidence had been presented by Peter Obi to counter the allegations of forgery, impersonation, and inconsistencies in his academic records. Furthermore, they pointed out that Peter Obi had only submitted his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate, which revealed a lack of credit passes in mathematics and English, essential for university admission in Nigeria.
The party demanded that Peter Obi clarify the discrepancies in his academic records, especially the issue of different names in various documents, without resorting to blackmail or sentimental tactics. The LP even challenged Peter Obi to take legal action against them or petition the Inspector General of Police for defamation, which would allow a comprehensive investigation into the inconsistencies.
Arabambi concluded by stating, “Failure to do this within the next 48 hours will attract his suspension from the Labour Party.” This ultimatum sets the stage for a critical juncture in Peter Obi’s political career as he faces mounting pressure to address the questions surrounding his academic credentials.
The public now eagerly awaits Peter Obi’s response as the clock ticks down on the ultimatum issued by the Labour Party.
