Presidential Candidate Peter Obi Mourns the Passing of Emeritus Professor Umar Shehu

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Emeritus Professor Umar Shehu, Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Institute of Virology.

The distinguished scholar passed away after a brief illness at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, at the age of 92.

In a statement released through his official communication channel, Peter Obi paid tribute to Professor Shehu’s significant contributions to the fields of health and education.

He hailed the late scholar’s notable achievements in both sectors, highlighting his service as Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from 1978 to 1980.

The former governor of Anambra State conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Professor Shehu’s family and the entire community of Borno State, the late professor’s place of origin.

Obi also extended his sympathies to the Borno Elders Forum, which Professor Shehu co-founded, and the Kanem Borno Historical and Cultural Foundation, an organization reportedly founded by the late scholar.

In concluding his message, Peter Obi offered prayers for the departed soul, asking for forgiveness of his sins and eternal rest.
