The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the deaths of six in Delta State. The officers were killed while investigating the disappearance of three of their colleagues in the state.

 

According to a statement by the Force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the officers fell victim to an ambush by armed assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen while on a mission in the Ohoro Forest, Delta State.

Six other officers are currently missing in action.

 

Adejobi disclosed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings, while efforts are ongoing to locate the missing officers.

The deceased officers were identified as Inspector Abe Olubunmi, Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday. The missing officers include Inspector Onoja Daniel, Inspector Onogho Felix, Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor, Inspector Joel Hamidu, Sergeant Moses Eduvie, and Sergeant Cyril Okorie.

The Nigeria Police Force expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the officers and extended condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues. The Force pledged to honor the fallen heroes at an upcoming awards ceremony and assured support for their families.

In response to the incident, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has taken decisive actions, including the recovery of the bodies of the slain officers and the arrest of five suspects. The Force is committed to apprehending all perpetrators and ensuring swift justice.
