President Tinubu Pledges Commitment to Transform Tertiary Education

In a resounding affirmation of dedication to the enhancement of tertiary education, President Bola Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to remodeling institutions of higher learning during the 54th convocation of the University of Lagos on Thursday.

Represented by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, highlighted the pivotal role of universities in achieving a new Nigeria. He emphasized the necessity for robust support and essential changes to align the country with the aspirations of its people.

“We have done well in infrastructure and culturally, and we need to be proud of who we are and what we represent as a people,” stated President Tinubu, commending the university’s efforts that led to the convocation ceremony.

Expressing confidence in the quality of teaching and research at the University of Lagos, President Tinubu asserted that graduating students are now well-equipped to compete globally.

He also acknowledged and saluted three distinguished professionals conferred with honorary degrees for their outstanding contributions to national development.

President Tinubu underscored the importance of tough decisions for national development, citing the removal of the fuel subsidy as a necessary action due to its unsustainable costs. He emphasized the redirection of funds towards public infrastructure, education, and critical social needs to enhance citizens’ lives.

Addressing economic challenges, President Tinubu assured that the nation would overcome the difficulties. He highlighted the importance of nurturing the future through careful decisions and machinery to realize the country’s dreams.

President Tinubu Reveals Signing Of Student Loan Bill Also Its Impact

To mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal, Tinubu revealed the signing of the student loan bill into law.

Under this initiative, indigent students will have access to interest-free loans during their education in government-owned institutions, with repayment expected two years after the mandatory national service.

The President  concluded, “It is our policy that no Nigerian child must fail to go to school due to poverty,” reaffirming the administration’s commitment to ensuring education accessibility for all citizens.
