Southeast Region to produce Senate president revealed
Ejes Gist News Nigeria has learned that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would most likely zone its Senate presidency seat to the Southeast zone.
In light of the fact that the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, is from the Southwest region and the vice-president-elect, Kashim Shettima, is from the Northeast, sources indicate that the Southeast zone has a favorable chance of securing the position of Nigeria’s No. 3 citizen.
This online newspaper reported that prominent southeast APC politicians, such as Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of the Abia North Senatorial District and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, are lobbying for the position.
Some party elders, according to a member of the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC), believe that zoning the Senate presidency seat to the South East will create a balance of power.
“Having been excluded from the presidential contest in all parties at a time when the demand for an Igbo president was high, it is in the APC’s best interest to zone the number three political position to the South East,” he said.
The NWC member added, “There is already tension, but the party is committed to reducing it by zoning its offices, beginning with the Senate presidency in the South East.”
This newspaper has learned that arrangements have been made to discuss this matter with the incoming president-elect, Tinubu.
