The family of former international Segun Odegbami has been plunged into mourning following the passing of his son, Oluwagbeminiyi Odegbami. Oluwagbeminiyi succumbed to a brief illness in the early hours of Good Friday, March 29, 2024.

Segun Odegbami revealed that his son’s demise occurred merely 12 hours after he reached out to him for input on a documentary project they were collaborating on.

Ogun state – Nigeria’s legendary footballer, Segun Odegbami, is grieving the loss of his son, Oluwagbeminiyi, after a short illness. The tragic event unfolded in the early hours of Good Friday, March 29, 2024.

Odegbami, in announcing the loss of his son, described him as a “highly gifted, multi-talented young man,” according to Ejes Gist News

He disclosed that he and Oluwagbeminiyi were engaged in a documentary project before the sorrowful incident. The former International further revealed that he spoke with his deceased son while he was in Accra, Ghana, a day before the tragedy struck.

In an emotional tribute, Odegbami wrote: “Four hours after our exchange, I received the first of endless phone calls that eventful day, last Thursday: Gbemi is not feeling well; Gbemi is being taken to a hospital; the hospital has referred Gbemi to another hospital.”

He added that he arranged for Oluwagbeminiyi to be transferred to a specialist hospital after his condition worsened. “The hospital worked on him for hours. Twelve hours after our initial communication, and precisely five minutes past midnight, on the dawn of Good Friday (a significant day in Christendom), the doctors called me once again to shatter my heart with the news that continues to haunt me till this moment – Gbemi has passed on!”

Segun Odegbami Predicted the Out of AFCON 2023. 

 

Meanwhile, Ejes Gist News reported that Odegbami had predicted the outcome of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final match between host country Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria. He confidently asserted that it would be a straightforward victory for the Super Eagles, emphasizing his belief in the strength of Nigeria’s team compared to their opponents.

 

 

Odegbami, a member of the team that clinched Nigeria’s inaugural AFCON title in 1980 in Lagos, Nigeria, expressed skepticism regarding Cote d’Ivoire’s journey to the final, attributing it more to fortunate circumstances than to skill.
