Ikenga Ugochinyere who is the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resource Downstream, has asserted that the recent attack on Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joel Ajaero in Imo State is an attempt to undermine the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ugochinyere commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and his Deputy, Benjamin Kalu, along with the entire House, for their resolution to intervene in the ongoing strike that has had severe nationwide implications.

Speaking to the press, Ugochinyere expressed his appreciation, emphasizing the commendable role played by the 10th House of Representatives, often referred to as the People’s Parliament.

“Let me commend the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Deputy Speaker, who is the mover of the motion of urgent importance today on the NLC strike and the resolution of the House to intervene. I think it is quite commendable. This has truly shown that the 10th House of Representatives is indeed the people’s Parliament as we are popularly called today.”

Lamenting the activities of the assailants, whom he described as “thugs and criminal elements,” Ugochinyere highlighted that the attacks extended beyond the NLC President, affecting other innocent citizens. He narrated a pattern of assaults on prominent figures, including judges of the Industrial High Court and former Governor Rochas Okoroacha, underscoring the painful collaboration between these elements and the police.

“This is not the first time this group of people launched attacks. They attacked judges of the Industrial High Court. They attacked the former Governor Rochas Okoroacha and beat him up, and they attacked his son-in-law.

Other innocent people have been attacked by these elements and they operate on the same page with the Police. That is why it is very painful.
