Amb. Desmond Akawor, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has tendered his resignation.

This move comes in the wake of his appointment as the Federal Commissioner representing the state at the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). Akawor conveyed his decision in a letter addressed to the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum.

Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him to lead the party in the state from 2020 to 2023, Akawor cited the opportunity to serve the nation in his new role as a primary reason for stepping down.

The letter emphasized that this decision was made after consultation with leaders and family members.

Akawor formally handed over his responsibilities to the Deputy Party Chairman, Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka, who has assumed the role in his absence.

The former PDP chairman highlighted his appreciation for the support received at both the state and national levels during his tenure.

Acknowledging the honor of steering the affairs of the party at the state level, Akawor expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for considering him worthy to serve in his new capacity. Despite resigning from his position, Akawor affirmed his unwavering commitment to the ideals of the PDP, pledging continued support whenever called upon for party matters.
