The tragedy unfolded on the evening of Friday, September 22, 2023, within the vicinity of Block D, Warri Barracks apartments. Witnesses described a heated dispute between Destiny and his neighbor, Onyebuchi Emeka, which quickly escalated into violence. Destiny, in a fit of rage, allegedly retrieved a knife and a dagger from his father’s apartment upstairs and pursued Onyebuchi, who fled across the barracks, eventually falling into a gutter.

Meanwhile, Inspector Ogbantu, the father of the suspect, has been taken into police custody, held responsible as a proxy for his son’s alleged actions.
Civil rights activists in Delta State have not remained silent on the matter. The Delta State chapter of the Nigerian Civil Rights Council has called for a thorough investigation, urging the Nigeria Police Force not to overlook the incident. Protesters led by Comrade Ojumude Bishop and including the unit Secretary, Comrade James Udume, voiced their demands for justice during a protest at the Warri Area Police Command. They insisted that Inspector Ogbantu cooperate fully with the law enforcement process without any attempts to manipulate the facts.
