“Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Olu of Onibuku, Ogun State”
In a tragic incident on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, a traditional ruler, Oba Abraham Olusegun Bankole, the Olu of Onibuku in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, lost his life in a fatal accident involving a liquor-laden truck and a tricycle (Keke Napep) on the Ota-Idiroko expressway, near Winners Chapel.
According to reports, the monarch was aboard the tricycle and attempting to alight when the truck with registration number EPE 252 XF ran over the vehicle, leading to his immediate death.
Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the tragic incident, although she mentioned that she was yet to receive a full briefing from the FRSC in Ota Unit.
Following the accident, the remains of the Oba were taken to the General Hospital, Ota, while the truck involved was moved away from the road by the police.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, also confirmed the accident and expressed condolences on behalf of the Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency to the family of the deceased monarch and the entire community.
In response to the incident, a first-class Oba in Ogun West expressed sadness and questioned why the late Oba Bankole chose to commute in a tricycle instead of using a personal car. Speculations suggest that the monarch might have made this choice due to the recent hike in petrol prices.
The tragic accident has left the community in grief, mourning the loss of their esteemed traditional ruler, Oba Abraham Olusegun Bankole.
