In a distressing incident that transpired on Thursday, a woman identified as Amaka Okonkwo reportedly poured a scalding mixture of hot water and pepper on her tenant, Imabong William. The alleged attack came as a result of William’s inability to pay a newly imposed rent, which led to a series of unfortunate events.

According to sources within Enugwu-Ukwu community in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, the tenant had received a quit notice due to her financial constraints, stemming from the increased rent. In an attempt to secure a new residence, she had requested additional time from her landlady before being forcefully evicted.

The incident unfolded when William was washing her clothes on the fateful day. Unexpectedly, her landlady approached from behind and subjected her to a horrific assault by dousing her with a mixture of scalding hot water and pepper. Neighbors came to the victim’s rescue and subsequently transported her to an undisclosed hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.
Local law enforcement took swift action as neighbors reported the incident to the Nimo police station. The alleged attacker, Amaka, was arrested in connection with the assault. The victim, originally from Akwa Ibom State, has garnered the support of both the community and law enforcement as the case unfolds.
Anambra State Commissioner for Women’s Affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, personally visited the victim to assess her condition and express her support. The victim recounted the distressing events leading up to the assault, highlighting the demand to vacate the house due to her financial difficulties.
Expressing her deep concern over the incident, Obinabo pledged to pursue justice for the victim. She underscored the government’s unwavering stance against all forms of assault, emphasizing that culprits would face severe consequences. Obinabo encouraged the public to promptly report any instances of wrongdoing through official channels to ensure swift intervention.
