Reno Omokri defend Nigerian President months after accusing Bola Tinubu of Certificate Forged.
Despite recent allegations of certificate forgery against Bola Tinubu, former presidential spokesman Reno Omokri has come forward to defend the former Lagos State governor, asserting that he did indeed graduate from Chicago State University (CSU).
The controversy surrounding Tinubu’s academic credentials erupted after the Chicago State University Registrar, Caleb Westberg, affirmed during a deposition that the certificate presented by Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was forged. However, Omokri has challenged the validity of these claims.
Addressing supporters of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi who celebrated what they believed to be an expose of Tinubu’s alleged forgery, Omokri urged caution. He emphasized that the registrar of CSU, Mr. Caleb Westberg, testified under oath that the individual who is now the President of Nigeria is the same person who graduated from the university.
Omokri contended that the Supreme Court would rely on this sworn testimony over public opinion, asserting, “The Supreme Court will take that above public opinion any day!
Drawing parallels to a previous controversy involving General Buhari’s certificates, Omokri pointed out that despite discrepancies in the replacement certificate presented by Buhari, no court removed him from office because the critical factor is the reality of graduation, not just the certificate itself.
He stated, “It is not the certificate that validates the graduation. It is just like marriage. Your church wedding is just a formality. You got married the day your union was registered at the registry. The document they gave you in the church is only ceremonial.”
Omokri, known for his legal background, urged Nigerians to review the deposition transcript. He explained that all Tinubu’s lawyers need to prove is that “Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a male and the same person currently occupying the office of the Presidency of Nigeria, graduated from Chicago State University.”
Omokri emphasized his commitment to speaking the truth, irrespective of personal preferences or public opinion, and encouraged others to examine the facts and legal principles involved in the case.
