CAN Slams Peak Milk by FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC For ‘Offensive’ Easter Advert
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned an Easter advertisement for Peak milk by FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC as offensive.
In a statement released on Monday, CAN General Secretary Barrister Joseph Daramola demanded that the company retract the advertisement, apologise to Christians, or face legal action and a boycott of their products.
“We find this advertisement to be insensitive, offensive, and completely unacceptable.
Good Friday is a solemn day for Christians around the world, commemorating the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins.
“This is not a time for crass commercialism,” Daramola stated.
He added that FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC’s actions were disrespectful to the Christian faith and an insult to millions of Christians in Nigeria and around the world.
“We are extremely disappointed that a company of such renown would exploit the religious beliefs of its customers for financial gain.

“We demand that the company issue an unqualified apology to the Christian community and immediately remove the offensive advertisement.”
He recalled a similar incident in the past in which Sterling Bank Plc used crucifixion imagery to promote its product and stated that it was condemned at the time and continues to be condemned today.
“We therefore urge all businesses and organisations to promote their products with sensitivity to the religious and cultural sensibilities of their customers.
We will not tolerate attempts to trivialise or disrespect our religion. Be warned,” Daramola said.
