Factional Chairman Apapa Rejects Suspension From Labour Party
Lamidi Apapa, the acting factional leader of the Labour Party, has rejected the party’s decision to expel him, insisting that he is still in charge and is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In an interview for Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday, Apapa argued that his expulsion from the party was unjustified.

He claimed that because Abure lacked the legal authority to call the party’s National Executive Committee meeting, the suspension was void.
According to the acting chairman, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) officials’ rejection of him was brought on by their ignorance of the party’s history and the role he has played over the years.
When questioned about claims that he was sponsored by outside parties, he responded, “I wasn’t suspended. The NEC meeting did not invite me. They believe I shouldn’t have been there. I am the only legitimate acting national chairman of the party as of right now.
“I’m not having trouble with Abure. I’m working as an actor there. The party’s constitution is so clear on this point that the deputy national chairman automatically assumes leadership if the national chairman is unable to do so for any reason.

“Exactly that is what took place. No one is funding me. Nobody has put me on hold. I continue to serve as the party’s interim national chairman. I stand by that.
His comments come a day after the party’s NEC suspended Apapa for engaging in “anti-party activities, violating the party constitution, running a parallel leadership, and completely discrediting the party.”
Additionally, the executive council of the party suspended five members.
When a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court recently issued an order prohibiting Julius Abure from posing as the LP’s national chairman, the party’s crisis appeared to be far from over.
In accordance with the directive, Apapa, the LP’s (South) deputy national chairman, formally proclaimed himself the party’s national chairman.
