In an effort to further investigate Emefiele, the DSS is expected to obtain a court order on Tuesday to keep him in custody for the duration of his interrogation.

A source who spoke with newsmen about the development stated that the DSS would likely petition the court for an indefinite detention order for Emefiele.

As part of an effort to reform the financial sector of the economy, Emefiele was suspended.

Willie Bassey, Director of Information for the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stated this in a statement.

Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), was tasked with taking over Emefiele’s responsibilities as CBN Governor immediately.

The following Saturday, DSS agents arrested Emefiele in Lagos and transported him to Abuja via private jet.

The source addressing the interrogation technique stated, “He (Emefiele) will be with us for a while. We may seek a court order to continue his detention. Previous charges against him exist, and additional investigations could add to them. You are aware that he is a big man, and we must ensure that all loose ends have been addressed before we take him to court.

“Remember, we were searching for him prior to his suspension. Now that we have him, we will hear what he has to say about the issues we have previously highlighted.”

The source added that the DSS had assembled an elite team of interrogators to question Emefiele on a variety of topics, including alleged terrorism financing and mismanagement of the economy and the central bank.

“We have a team of interrogators who will question him and obtain his statements. We will not mishandle our case. But in all honesty, Nigerians need to know what transpired and why we were searching for him previously,” the source added.

According to sources who spoke with newsmen, other top CBN directors will be questioned in the coming weeks as part of the President-ordered investigation into Emefiele’s administration.

According to the source, the DSS would likely target senior officials in the CBN’s procurement department as well as special advisors to the embattled governor.

According to a source, the DSS is monitoring a special adviser to the CBN’s governor.

“He retired from the CBN as a director in 2021, but Emefiele retained him as a special adviser. He is believed to have inside knowledge of all of Emefiele’s actions.

“Other subjects of interest include senior procurement officials and directors. In the coming weeks, many top directors will be summoned or arrested for questioning.”

It was noted that Emefiele, his aides, and other top directors would be questioned on a number of issues relating to loans worth billions of naira given to farmers under the Fadama scheme, which were believed to have been marred by fraud; the controversial sale of Polaris Bank, which was also allegedly riddled with irregularities; the alleged financing of the Indigenous People of Biafra by the suspended CBN chief, and other allegations bordering on forex fraud.

The CBN chiefs are also expected to answer difficult questions regarding the apex bank’s fiscal policies, including the handling of the naira redesign policy, which led to the scarcity of naira notes and precipitated a nationwide economic crisis that resulted in riots, attacks on banks, and the death of some citizens.
