President Bola Tinubu has suspended AbdulRasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The suspension, as stated in a press release by Willie Basse, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has been enacted to facilitate a thorough investigation into Bawa’s conduct during his tenure.

On June 6, 2023, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, was suspended by President Tinubu. Subsequently, on June 7, 2023, Emefiele was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).

President Tinubu’s decision to suspend both the EFCC Chairman, AbdulRasheed Bawa and the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele showcases his firm commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency in key government institutions. “Mr AbdulRasheed Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.”
