Chef Dammy Did Not Apply Before Attempting to Break Cooking Record” – Guinness World Record breaks silence

 

The Guinness World Records has stated that it did not receive an application for the recently concluded cookathon in Oye-Ekiti by popularly known as chef Dammy.

Chef Dammy, a courageous woman, began cooking in Oye-Ekiti on June 9, stating that she would cook for 120 hours.

The records agency reported receiving applications for Dammy’s cookathon.

Some Nigerians questioned whether Chef Dammy followed the correct procedure or whether she intended to break the world record.

How Nigerians reacted when Chef Dammy announced her

Nigerians began reacting to her efforts after the of her cookathon became public on social media.

While many individuals criticised her for attempting to imitate Hilda Baci, others mobilized massive support for her.

 

People continued to criticize Dammy, stating that she desired to shine like Hilda Baci, and confusion ensued.

One businessman even offered Dammy one million Nigerian naira to stop cooking.

Some Nigerians online accused her of turning off the gas to harvest beans, while others urged her to go home and rest. However, she continued to cook until she reached 120 hours, despite the criticism.

 

What Guinness World Records had to say about Chef Dammy’s cooking competition

On Tuesday, June 13, Legit.ng sent a press inquiry to Guinness World Records to clear the air.

 

A response from the organization indicates that Dammy may not have intended to break any records to begin with. She may have been cooking out of passion or to demonstrate her skills, which have been attested to by many.

Ejes Gist News Nigeria wished to determine if the organisation is aware of the cookathon in order to reassure members of the public who were curious about Dammy’s efforts.

The report from GWR said:

 

“No application has been received for this attempt. Applications may be submitted via the Guinness World Records website for review by our records management team.”

Some Nigerians also questioned whether Dammy was adhering to cooking regulations. Regarding this, the organisation stated that anyone attempting to break a record receives rules from the organisation once their application is accepted.

 

The author wrote:

“Once an application is accepted, the record claimant receives a set of detailed guidelines specific to that record category, which must be adhered to.”

“This also includes a list of required evidence for our team to verify the record. Each Guinness World Records title is subjected to a rigorous review procedure to preserve its credibility.

While some have stated that Dammy must wait a year before attempting to break Hilda’s record, the GWR has stated that there is no waiting period before attempting to break an existing record.

 

The body stated expressly:

 

There is no waiting period before attempting to break a record.

The organisers, The Spirit Word Mission, tweeted on their official account on June 7 just prior to the beginning of chef Dammy’s cookathon:

 

A WhatsApp inquiry regarding this story to the published number of Chef Dammy’s cookathon organisers, but there was no response.

 

our correspondent also spoke with Chuwuebuka Ezugha, founder and chairman of Chukwuebuka Freestyle Entertainment and Academy, who has applied for 16 record attempts on behalf of talented footballers under his training. Before attempting to break a record, he confirmed the Guinness World Record’s rules regarding application.

He said:

“Each process can take up to 12 weeks, or five business days if you choose and pay for “Priority Application.” I applied for all sixteen records independently. The record will not be approved if GWR attempt guidelines are not received and followed.
