The outbreak was reported in Kafanchan, Jama’a Local Government area of Kaduna State. The distressing news was confirmed by Dr. Isaac Nathaniel, the Chief Medical Director of Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital.
Adding to the concerns, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has raised an alert that Anthrax disease may have spread to both southern and other northern parts of the country. This unsettling disclosure comes just 24 hours after the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, confirmed the first case of the disease in Niger State.

The initial case of the outbreak was identified on a multi-specie animal farm that housed cattle, sheep, and goats in Suleja. Speaking to Channels Television, Ifedayo Adetifa, the NCDC’s Executive Director, revealed that the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture was notified about animals showing symptoms of a suspected case of anthrax at the farm in Suleja, Niger State.
“The affected animals exhibited symptoms including oozing of blood from various body openings such as the anus, nose, eyes, and ears,” Adetifa explained.
As authorities grapple to contain the situation, further investigations are underway to identify the cause of the respiratory infection claiming the lives of young children in Kaduna State. The public is urged to remain vigilant and follow updates from health authorities to prevent further spread of the infections.
