Bandits Demand N4 Million Ransom for Abducted NYSC Members in Zamfara State.

 

In a distressing incident, gunmen believed to be bandits have abducted more than eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Zamfara State. The victims were traveling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo to Sokoto to participate in their mandatory National Service when the bandits ambushed their vehicle. The incident occurred last Friday.

The abducted NYSC members have reportedly been held captive by the terrorists, who have made a demand for a sum of four million Naira as ransom to secure their release. The father of one of the victims, Emmanuel Eket, revealed in a phone interview that the bandits contacted him using his daughter’s phone. They informed him of the abduction and demanded the ransom amount.

Eket explained, “They called me with her number, demanding the sum of N4 million. They allowed me to speak with my daughter because I asked how they wanted us to pay and my daughter said we should contact the AKTC.”

Despite the initial communication, Eket expressed concern that he has not received any further updates or calls from his daughter since then. The situation has left him anxious about the well-being of his child and the other kidnapped NYSC members.

The Zamfara State Police Command has not issued an official statement about the abduction, leaving many to wonder about the measures being taken to address the situation. However, an anonymous military source has confirmed the kidnapping and noted that a rescue operation is underway. A team is currently combing the forest area in an effort to locate and rescue the abducted NYSC members without harm.

As the families of the victims anxiously await news of their loved ones’ safety, the incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by regions in Nigeria and the urgent need for effective countermeasures against such criminal activities.
