In response to the recent discontinuation of petroleum subsidy and its potential socio-economic ramifications, the Delta State Government has introduced a series of palliative measures aimed at alleviating the impact on its dedicated public servants.

The initiative, spearheaded by His Excellency Governor Hon. Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, demonstrates the government’s resolute commitment to the well-being of its workforce.

Ex-Gratia Payment for Public Servants

The cornerstone of these measures is an ex-gratia payment of N10,000.00 per month, set to be disbursed to all public servants across the state. This allowance, to be extended for an initial period of three months starting from August 2023, seeks to cushion the effects of the subsidy withdrawal on the financial stability of public servants

Innovative Rotational Work Arrangement

A novel working arrangement is set to be implemented for public servants, effective from September 2023. This revamped structure will witness a rotating schedule for employees across different tiers:

  • SGL.01-14 Staff: This group will adopt a unique working pattern. Employees will alternate their working days throughout the week:
    • 1st Batch: Monday-Wednesday
    • 2nd Batch: Thursday-Friday
  • SGL.15 and above Staff: The attendance of this tier will be adapted as per the discretion of respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), taking into consideration both job responsibilities and convenience.

Promotion of Remote Work

Acknowledging the importance of maintaining operational efficiency, MDAs are strongly encouraged to promote remote work wherever feasible. Essential tasks should be seamlessly executed, ensuring that the impact of the petroleum subsidy withdrawal on work productivity is minimized.

Call for Strict Implementation

Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments have been entrusted with the responsibility of rigorously enforcing these directives. Their adherence will play a pivotal role in mitigating any hardships encountered by public servants during this critical period. This circular, disseminated with a mandate for strict adherence, serves as an information guide to guide and inform staff within their purview.

A Beacon of Hope

The government is confident that these measures will provide much-needed relief, underscoring Governor Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of public service workers in the face of challenging circumstances. As Delta State embarks on this transitional phase, the implementation of these measures underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring the stability and well-being of its valued workforce
