Femi Gbajabiamila, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, inaugurated four impactful projects during a ceremony in Surulere. The event, held on Tuesday, January 2, saw the collaboration of Gbajabiamila and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in ushering in a new era of development for the region.
During his address, Gbajabiamila emphasized the importance of experience and pedigree in governance, urging citizens to recognize the time and effort required for effective governance. He stressed that the ultimate legacy for public servants lies in tangible improvements to the lives of the people they serve.

The projects commissioned include a state-of-the-art conference center at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, an ultramodern 80-bed General Hospital, the dualized Babs Animashaun Road and Census Bridge, and the Sam Shonibare Community Development Centre, all located in Surulere.
Expressing gratitude, Gbajabiamila acknowledged the support and collaboration of Governor Sanwo-Olu, highlighting the significance of partnership in realizing the envisioned projects. He proudly outlined the accomplishments during his tenure, including the construction of over 250 roads, completion of 15 mini stadia, and substantial investments in education and healthcare.
The upgraded General Hospital now features advanced facilities, such as a 500kva generator, a 100kva solar power supply, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a borehole, water filtration system, and a dialysis center. The hospital also boasts radiology, a large laboratory, pediatric, physiotherapy, surgical, and X-ray facilities.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Gbajabiamila for the successful partnership, emphasizing the world-class status of the upgraded hospital. He announced plans to address the shortage of medical personnel by establishing a medical university in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The proposed institution aims to graduate 1,500 doctors annually, contributing to the state’s medical infrastructure and deterring the mass exodus of medical professionals.
Sanwo-Olu stated, “We are not going to stop at ensuring that we provide the best facilities to be able to retain our best hands,” emphasizing the commitment of the Lagos State government to enhancing healthcare and education for its citizens.
