FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Collaborates with Traditional Leaders to Bolster Security in Abuja
In a proactive move to tackle the escalating security challenges in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike has rallied the support of traditional leaders. During a security meeting held on Wednesday with the FCT Council of Chiefs and the chairmen of the six Area Councils in Abuja, Wike emphasized the pivotal role traditional leaders play in the battle against criminal elements.
The focus of the meeting was to apprise the traditional leaders of the government’s efforts to curb rising insecurity, particularly in Bwari, Kwali, and Kuje. Nyesom Wike underscored the importance of traditional leaders in maintaining security within their domains and providing crucial information to support security agencies.

Assuring residents that the government is actively addressing challenges, Wike emphasized the necessity for a robust synergy between the government and traditional leaders to effectively combat insecurity. He urged members of the council of chiefs to collaborate with area councils’ chairmen to strengthen vigilante groups in their respective areas.
However, Nyesom Wike cautioned against enlisting individuals with criminal tendencies, emphasizing the importance of profiling potential recruits to avoid exacerbating existing security challenges. He highlighted the need for a strategic approach to problem-solving, ensuring that addressing one issue does not inadvertently create another.
“Insecurity is not written on anybody’s face. Anyone can be a victim, and that is why we must do everything possible to ensure that our subjects are not victims of these criminals,” Wike stated.
Nyesom Wike To Demolish Shanties Been Use As Hideouts By Criminals In FCT
Furthermore, the minister informed traditional leaders that the FCT Administration would persist in demolishing shanties, identified as hideouts for criminals within the territory. This proactive measure aims to dismantle potential havens for criminal activities.

The Chairman of the FCT Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Adamu Yunusa, expressed the council’s full support for the minister’s initiatives, urging Wike to continue the commendable work in the FCT. Similarly, Mr. Daniel Chiya, Chairman of Kwali Area Council, pledged unwavering support from the area councils in the collective fight against insecurity.
As the government intensifies its collaborative efforts with traditional leaders, the hope is to establish a united front against insecurity, ultimately ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in the Federal Capital Territory.
