Presidency Takes Action: Free Grain Bags to Ease Nigerians’ Burden in Times of Hardship

The Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, clarified to Nigerians that the grain bags are provided free of charge, incurring no expenses.

Ejes Gist News had earlier reported the Minister of Agriculture’s assurance on February 8 regarding the federal government’s distribution of millet, maize, and essential food items to alleviate hardship.

Despite the promise, Nigerians have not received grains or food commodities for almost three weeks, attributed to the high food costs impacting the economy.

Onanuga explained the delay, pointing to the ongoing process of bagging grains at seven strategic locations nationwide, managed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Reaffirming the commitment, Onanuga stated on Friday that the Tinubu administration, through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, is finalizing the release of 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities to aid the vulnerable population.

The grains, located strategically, are being bagged for delivery to NEMA, causing a delay due to freshly ordered bags by the government.

In conclusion, Onanuga reiterated the presidency decision, “Nigerians will not need to pay for the grain bags; they are free.”
