FAAN Shuts Down KFC Outlet at MMIA Following Discriminatory Treatment Allegation
In adherence to Lagos State law on People with Special Needs, specifically Part C, section 55 of the General Provisions on Discrimination, the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken decisive action to address an allegation of discriminatory treatment at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
The closure of the KFC facility at MMIA, effective March 28, 2024, comes in response to a social media report by a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) detailing discriminatory treatment experienced at the airport.
Upon receiving the report, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the MD/CE of FAAN, promptly intervened by deploying a management team to investigate the matter. The team, led by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, along with other key officials, conducted a thorough investigation into the incident.
Based on the findings of the investigation, FAAN has made the decision to shut down the KFC facility at MMIA, where the alleged incident took place. Additionally, FAAN has instructed the management of KFC to issue an unreserved written apology to the affected PRM and to prominently display a policy statement of non-discrimination at their facility before resuming operations.
