In a significant political development, the Seibarugu political dynasty, a prominent force within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, has officially severed ties with the party and embraced the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The influential group, boasting a substantial membership base spread across the state, is under the leadership of former Acting Governor and Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chief Werinipre Seibarugu.
During a formal declaration held at the Government House in Yenagoa, where they met with Governor Douye Diri, Mr. Ebiye Waripamo, coordinator of the Seibarugu Dynasty, highlighted their decision to align with the PDP.
He praised Governor Diri’s leadership style, commending it as characterized by peace and a strong focus on development.
After a thorough evaluation of Diri’s performance over nearly four years, with a special emphasis on the prevailing peace and security situation, as well as the ongoing developmental projects throughout the state, the Seibarugu Dynasty expressed their unwavering commitment to collaborating with the governor in propelling Bayelsa to greater heights.
Waripamo emphasized their dedication to supporting Governor Diri’s re-election bid, scheduled for November 11, 2023, underscoring, “We left Jerusalem and went to Egypt but now we are back in Jerusalem and this is where we will stay. We are not going back again.”
The move by the Seibarugu political dynasty is poised to have a notable impact on the political landscape in Bayelsa State and is likely to influence the upcoming elections.
Observers will be closely watching the evolving dynamics as the state’s political map continues to take shape.
