Adamu Garba, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a recent social media post has cast doubt on the political standing of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Garba contends that Wike’s political influence is intricately tied to his current ministerial position, suggesting that without it, his sway within the political landscape could face a considerable decline.

“As it stands now, the only thing holding Wike’s political capital is the seat as the FCT Minister. If he ceases to be FCT minister, the loyalty from his current team cannot be guaranteed,” Garba asserted in his social media post on Monday.

Garba underlined the historical dominance of the PDP in Rivers State, emphasizing that institutions, traditional rulers, and the general populace have traditionally aligned with the party.

And his message carries a cautionary note, warning the APC to tread carefully to avoid inheriting unnecessary hostility from the people of Rivers State.

“Most importantly, Rivers State is a traditional PDP domain. Because majority of the establishments in Rivers are for the PDP, the traditional rulers are for the PDP, and the people at the grassroots have been with the PDP,” Garba emphasized in his post.

This statement from Adamu Garba follows the recent political turbulence in Rivers State, marked by the defection of 27 PDP lawmakers to the APC.

As political dynamics continue to evolve in Rivers State, Adamu Garba’s observations raise pertinent questions about the sustainability of political influence in the absence of key positions and the intricate relationship between political figures and their roles within the government.
