Court Sends Governor Adeleke’s Appointee Olalekan Oyeyemi to Prison over Alleged Murder
Olalekan Oyeyemi, a member of the Osun Park Management System in Ile-Ife, Osun state, known as Emir, has been remanded in Ile-Ife Correctional Centre by a Federal High Court in Osogbo. The court session, held on Thursday, February 1, saw Oyeyemi facing an 11-count charge brought by the Nigeria police.
Olalekan Oyeyemi, who was appointed to the park management by the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, found himself in legal trouble due to allegations stemming from an incident in 2023. According to reports by The Punch, he was arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Osun state police command for allegedly beating an unidentified man into a coma.
During the court proceedings, Oyeyemi’s lawyer, Edmund Biriomoni, raised concerns about the jurisdiction of the court and challenged some of the counts listed against his client. Biriomoni specifically objected to the murder charge pressed against Oyeyemi and indicated that he had already filed a preliminary objection.

In response, the prosecutor, Umar Usman from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, requested the court to withdraw a previously filed charge and replace it with an amended one. Following the acceptance of the amended charge, Usman urged the court to take the defendant’s plea.
Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel ruled in favor of the withdrawal and substitution of the charge. Subsequently, he remanded Olalekan Oyeyemi to Ile-Ife Correctional Centre and directed Biriomoni to file a formal application for objection to the amended charge on behalf of his client.

The case has been adjourned until Tuesday, March 5, indicating that further legal proceedings will take place to address the charges against Oyeyemi.
