In a heartfelt New Year address, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa pledged to pay tribute to his predecessor, the late Rotimi Akeredolu, not only through a befitting state burial but also by immortalizing his name.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by the state in the past year, Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for overcoming difficulties, highlighting 2023 as one of the most testing years in the state’s history. He paid tribute to the late Akeredolu, acknowledging his significant contributions to the development of Ondo State and Nigeria.

“As promised, we will not only give our late former governor a befitting state burial but will also immortalize his name, just as we will strive to complete all the developmental projects he embarked upon as Governor of Ondo State,” Governor Aiyedatiwa declared during the address.
The governor outlined his commitment to continue and finish the projects initiated by Akeredolu, emphasizing the need to build on the foundation laid by the previous administration. Aiyedatiwa urged unity among the people, stating, “It is time to put the past behind us and focus all our human and material resources on building on the foundation that this administration has so far laid.”
With the upcoming governorship election in the state, the governor called on all political parties, aspirants, and their followers to prioritize peaceful and lawful engagement in the electoral process. He stressed the importance of avoiding violence and urged stakeholders to adhere strictly to the guidelines issued by the electoral umpire.

“The election should be a contest of ideas and choices, not an opportunity to settle political scores or an excuse for calumny,” Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized.
