Enugu Governor-elect, Peter Mbah’s certificate not from us – NYSC DG

Brig Gen YD Ahmed, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has stated that the discharge certificate being displayed by Enugu State’s incoming governor, Barr Peter Mbah, was not issued by the organisation.

Brig Gen Ahmed, who was a guest on Arise Television’s breakfast show on Friday, stated that the question of whether or not Mbah has a valid NYSC certificate is moot because he informed the PDP candidate in the 2023 governorship election that the document he presented was a forgery.

“He approached me, and I called my director to verify the certificate. We discovered that it was a forgery, and I informed him…I am perplexed as to why elites who have attended school would purchase certificates on the black market.

“Everyone is aware of how we issue NYSC certificates; we do not do so in hotel rooms or private homes,” said the DG.

Peter Mbah has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the NYSC, claiming N20 billion in damages for the injuries he claims his discharge certificate controversy has caused him.

In response to an inquiry from a non-governmental organisation, the NYSC issued a letter in February 2023 stating that the certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not been issued by them.

A second letter renouncing the certificate was issued in April 2023 in response to a second inquiry by Silver & Co. Associates of Aba.

Regarding Mbah’s alleged lawsuit, the NYSC Director General stated that he was unaware of any such action and would not respond based on hearsay.

“With regard to the lawsuit, the NYSC has not been sued. I have not seen anything from a court, and I have only heard what you have said from the outside. I am not in possession of a court order, but I must inform you that we do not tolerate certificate racketeering. If it is a member of our staff, it is not our concern. “However, we did not issue that certificate,” he asserted.

Peter Mbah’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate has snowballed into a national issue, drawing attention to the possibility that many public officeholders are obtaining their positions with fraudulent credentials.

Recently, Mbah, through his attorney Emeka Ozoani, SAN, obtained an injunction from a Federal High Court in Abuja prohibiting the NYSC and any of its personnel from commenting on the contested certificate.
