Why I didn’t attend Tinubu’s project commissioning in Rivers – Tonye Cole
Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor in Rivers state, has provided an explanation for his absence during Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s state visit.
Tinubu is in the state for a two-day visit to inaugurate the Rumuola-Rumuokwuta Flyover and the Magistrate Court Complex delivered by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers.

Cole claimed that he did not attend Tinubu’s visit because he was not invited.
He stated that Governor Wike should have informed the APC in the state of Rivers that he was inviting Tinubu and would like the party to participate in the programme.
On Thursday during an interview on Arise TV that was monitored by the Ejes Gist News Nigeria, he stated this.
He stated, “I will discuss the visit from two perspectives. It begins with the President-elect. As the incoming president of Nigeria, he is permitted to travel anywhere. and the Rivers State Government invited him, and he has accepted that invitation and arrived in Rivers State as the incoming president; we have no problem with that.

“The issue is that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike should also be the governor of all Rivers residents. And one of the things he should have done if he was inviting the President-elect, who is the President-elect of all Nigerians, was to call the APC in Rivers State to inform us that he was inviting the President-elect and that he wanted us to be a part of the programme.
“We never received an invitation, I was never invited in my personal capacity as a candidate for the party, nor was our party, the APC in the state, invited to any of those events;
“…and I believe this is where the distinction lies between the President-elect acting in his capacity as President-elect for all Nigerians and Governor Wike acting in his capacity as a governor of a specific Rivers population. This is the source of our disagreement.”
