The three-man Appeal Court panel delivered a unanimous decision on Saturday, asserting that Governor Otti’s victory at the polls conformed to the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The court deemed the appeals brought by the PDP and APC as lacking in merit, describing them as akin to “a comedy skit brought to a democratic setting.
Addressing the issue of political party membership, the court emphasized that it is a pre-election matter falling within the jurisdiction of the respective political parties.
Governor Otti’s qualification to contest was affirmed, given his affiliation with the Labour Party, victory in its primary election, and the submission of his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Regarding the concerns raised by the PDP and its candidate on the Bimodial Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), the court highlighted the appellants’ failure to substantiate or link their documentary evidence to specific aspects of the case.
The court’s decision has ignited celebrations among Governor Otti’s supporters in various parts of the State, marking a significant milestone in the political landscape of Abia.
