Suspected hired gunmen have assaulted Reverend Samuel Chinyereugo, a pastor, and tragically claimed the life of his wife, Peace, in Edo State.
Reportedly, these assailants targeted the God’s Vineyard of Grace Dominion Assembly church, situated at 101, Upper Lawani Street, New Benin, Benin City, around 7:36 pm on August 14, 2023. The attackers entered the premises and fired at the pastor.
During the incident, the assistant pastor also sustained head injuries.
According to an unnamed source quoted by Punch, the gunmen had trailed the pastor and his wife, who were in their car, to the church. As soon as the couple parked in front of the church, the assailants opened fire, showering them with bullets.
The pastor recounted noticing a suspicious car tailing him within the GRA area, where he had been visiting a friend. He was taken aback when the same vehicle suddenly pulled up behind him in front of his church.
Of the three armed men who exited the vehicle, one approached the pastor, snatched his cross pendant, while the other two attackers unleashed gunfire from the rear.
Tragically, the pastor’s wife suffered bullet wounds and succumbed to them a few hours later at a hospital. In contrast, both the pastor and his deputy received medical attention and were subsequently discharged.
Confirming the incident, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the police spokesperson in the state, assured that a comprehensive investigation was underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, ensuring justice is served.
