Bandits abduct 80 children in Zamfara

 

A group of bandits abducted 80 children from the Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State on Friday morning.

 

Ejes Gist News Nigeria gathered that Children between the ages of 12 and 17 were reportedly gathering firewood in the bush at 8:00 a.m. when they were rounded up by bandits and led into the forest.

When speaking to BBC Hausa, the parents of the abducted children expressed their shock and anguish over the incident.

 

As of the time of reporting, they disclosed that the bandits had not contacted them with any demands.

 

Meanwhile, On Thursday morning, three mobile police officers were killed and another was injured when gunmen opened fire on them as they returned to their duty post near Agor, along the Igarra-Auchi Road in Edo State.

One of the assailants reportedly died from gunshot wounds, while the other was transported to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Six firearms were reportedly recovered from them.

 

A source, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons, told Ejes Gist News Nigeria that the incident occurred between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. near the popular Agor Market, where mobile police officers typically set up roadblocks.

 

According to the source, the checkpoint was established due to the activities of kidnappers in the region, who prowl the farm communities in search of farmers to abduct and demand ransom.

“While the police officers were driving in their car, another officer was riding behind them on a motorcycle when ambush attackers opened fire on them.

 

“The police officers on the motorcycle engaged the attackers, who fled into the bush with the police officer’s rifles after killing them,” the source said.

Ibukun Dogo, the leader of the local vigilante group, described the incident to journalists as follows: “Around 6 a.m., I received a call from the Divisional Police Officer informing me that his men had been attacked. We rushed to the scene and discovered the lifeless bodies of three police officers.

 

“We observed blood stains in the underbrush and followed them to the suspects’ hideout, where we found two of them with gunshot wounds. One was killed by gunfire, while the other was transported to the hospital by police.

“We recovered four police rifles and two more in the area where we discovered them. The suspect claimed to be from Okenne, Kogi State, but we do not know whether they intended to use the weapons for armed robbery or kidnapping.

 

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that the command had not yet received the incident’s specifics.

Meanwhile, A police officer was murdered by gunmen who invaded a portion of the oil-rich city of Port Harcourt on Good Friday.

 

It was reported that unknown gunmen had attacked a police checkpoint in the Marine Base neighbourhood of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of the state.

In addition, it was discovered that the bandits shot and killed the officer before fleeing.

 

However, the State Police Commissioner, CP Effiong Okon, has ordered an immediate crackdown and the arrest of the unidentified gunmen who fatally shot a police officer near the police base junction.
