The backdrop to this controversy lies in a recent dismissal by a US court of a case seeking to obtain President Tinubu’s academic records, a move that came after Atiku Abubakar withdrew the suit. Shedding light on the decision, Phrank Shaibu, an aide to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, stated that the withdrawal aimed to prevent any abuse of the court processes.

However, Angela Liu, in a statement released on Wednesday, has ignited debate by suggesting that President Tinubu should have been proactive in addressing the allegations surrounding his academic achievements. “Mr. Tinubu should have been keen to clear up any inconsistencies in his academic achievements and set the records straight by allowing the expedition of the legal process,” Liu remarked.

Liu’s comments, while stirring discussion, underline her belief that President Tinubu’s reluctance to address the controversy could be feeding suspicions rather than dispelling them. “If there is an explanation for the discrepancies we have identified, we would think that Mr. Tinubu would be eager to provide it,” Liu stated, hinting at the potential motivations behind the President’s resistance.

The crux of the matter lies in the belief that a transparent response from President Tinubu could potentially obviate the need for prolonged legal proceedings. Liu emphasized, “In candour, the vehemence of Mr. Tinubu’s opposition to this discovery is increasing rather than mitigating our suspicions.”
