PDP thugs injure APC Governorship Candidate, Tonye Cole in Rivers State
Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Rivers State in the 2023 election, claimed on Monday that thugs allegedly supported by the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, attacked and hurt him.
Gunshots were heard on Monday during a fight between supporters of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital, over the scrutiny of voting materials.
When Cole and APC leaders showed up at the INEC office in the state capital to inspect the supplies used in the most recent election in the state, trouble began to ensue.
The APC candidate claimed that he was stoned in the back by political thugs.
He told Channels TV that the PDP had organised thugs from everywhere to block his path to the INEC office.
I didn’t let that stop me, so I went with the chairman of my party, the woman leader, the youth leader, and senior APC officials. From GRA Junction, they had blocked off the road, and everyone was smoking Indian hemp.
The first thing that happened was that they started assaulting me. A woman grabbed my shirt before they started pulling me from behind. They started throwing water, moved on to throwing food, then started throwing stones the next moment.
“We then immediately began hearing gunshots. My security team was required to evict me firmly.
They hurt me while damaging our vehicles with their stone-throwing.
When I was at the back, they started throwing stones at me after slapping and punching me, dragging me and yanking my shirt.
