After a long battle with a terminal illness, Senator Clement Annie Okonkwo has passed away.

Ejes Gist News Nigeria learned that Okonkwo, who celebrated his 63rd birthday on 23 May 2023, passed away on Wednesday, .

Senator Annie Okonkwo was elected in 2007 to represent the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone in Anambra State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to family sources, he was “recovering after taking proper treatment in the United States of America, but relapsed a few days ago and died.”

 

His son, Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, is the newly-elected representative for Anambra’s Idemili North and Idemili South federal districts.

 

Soon, the funeral arrangements will be announced.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Nasir Muhammad Nasir, the Chief Imam of the Fagge Juma’at Mosque, passed away.

He passed away on Wednesday following a protracted illness and will be buried on Thursday at the palace of the Emir of Kano.

The deceased Islamic scholar was 87 years old and was commonly known as Limamin Waje.

 

The deceased was crowned Wazirin Kano by the late Emir Ado Bayero, but former Governor Rabiu Kwankwasa removed the turban.

Kwankwaso replaced him, citing security concerns; however, Nasir refused to resign.
