Supreme Court Dismisses Emeka Ihedioha’s Application to Remove Hope Uzodinma as Imo State Governor

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has recently ruled against an application made by Emeka Ihedioha, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), seeking to unseat Hope Uzodinma as the Governor of Imo State.

Ihedioha’s application urged the court to issue a consequential order mandating the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a certificate of return to him as the duly elected governor of Imo State in the 2019 election.

He highlighted that the court was without jurisdiction to adjudicate on the matter due to the expiration of the 60-day period stipulated for election-related issues.

Furthermore, Justice Abubakar imposed a fine of N40 million on Mike Ozekhome, SAN, the legal counsel representing the PDP, for bringing forth what the court deemed an unfounded case.

The ruling marks a pivotal decision by the Supreme Court, underscoring the court’s commitment to upholding due process and adhering to the stipulated legal timelines for election-related disputes.
