Christian Association of Nigeria Condemns Plateau Attacks, Calls for Unity and Peace.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed profound sorrow and condolences over the simultaneous and coordinated attacks in Plateau State that have claimed over 155 lives, led to many abductions, and resulted in the burning down of 17 houses.

CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, issued a statement on Tuesday, lamenting what he described as “the recent horrifying incidents” that unfolded on Christmas Eve in Plateau State.

Expressing solidarity with the affected communities, Archbishop Okoh condemned the acts of violence in the strongest terms. He highlighted the devastating impact on peace and unity, emphasizing that such violence contradicts the shared values of the society.

“We condemn these acts of violence in the strongest possible terms. The burning down of houses, worship centres, and the destruction of properties worth millions of naira is not only a criminal act but also a direct assault on our shared values of peace, unity, and mutual respect. Such acts have no place in our society and must not be allowed to prevail,” Okoh asserted.

While commending the swift intervention of the military and the joint police and military task force to restore peace, the CAN leader urged security agencies to intensify efforts in intelligence gathering and proactive interventions. He stressed the need to transition from reactive measures to preventive strategies to forestall future acts of violence.
