Abuja Court declines lifting Abure’s suspension as LP National Chairman

On Monday, the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory refused to vacate an interim order prohibiting the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Julius Abure, the National Secretary, Mr. Farouk Ibrahim, and two others from posing as party leaders.

Justice Hamza Muazu has instead set April 20 as the date for hearing all applications related to the case, despite an urgent request by the attorneys for the indicted national officers of the party that the matter be heard expeditiously.

Counsel for Abure, Alex Ejesieme [SAN], petitioned the court on Monday to vacate the interim order and restore a semblance of sanity following the forcible takeover of the Labour Party national secretariat by another faction.

The senior attorney stated that, as a result of the interim order, the division within the party has worsened to the point where four groups within the Imo State chapter of the Labour Party held parallel primaries.

As an intervention, however, Justice Muazu ordered all parties in the lawsuit to ensure prompt filing of their processes so that the case could be heard quickly.
