Accountant’s Termination Reversed by Delta Assembly After Two Decades
Delta State House of Assembly has reversed the termination of Emmanuel Emenetie’s employment by the Post Primary Education Board, a decision made 24 years ago.
Ejes Gist News learned that Emenetie had submitted a petition to the Assembly on 17 February 2000, alleging that the Post Primary Education Board had wrongfully terminated his employment.
In his petition, Emenetie sought reinstatement as Permanent Secretary, equivalent to his colleagues in service, and requested that all financial benefits be applied retroactively from the date of termination. He also sought compensation of N4,800,000.00 for the years he was unemployed.
During Tuesday’s session, presided over by Speaker Hon Emomotimi Guwor, the lawmakers unanimously decided that the dismissal was unlawfully made and should be overturned.
The assembly recommended that Emenetie be compensated with all due salaries/emoluments and that benefits commence from the date of his wrongful termination.
Praising the Public Petitions Committee’s report, the Speaker tasked the Clerk of the House to notify the relevant authorities of the decision. The Deputy Speaker was instructed to ensure compliance.

The lawmakers concluded, “He should receive other entitled benefits from the date of his wrongful termination to his current rank of Director and up to his projected retirement date.
“Mr Emmanuel Emenetie should retire at the grade level of a Director. The Chairman of the Post Primary Education Board and the Delta State Head of Service are to ensure the House’s recommendations/directives, as outlined in paragraphs 1-3, are promptly implemented.”
