Delta State Governor Approves Recruitment of Teachers and Support Staff

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has given the green light for the recruitment of teachers, clerical officers, and watchmen in 22 local government council areas in the state.

The announcement was made by Hon. Victor Ebonka, State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), during the State Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) Meeting in Asaba on Friday.

The approval for recruitment was granted to address the pressing need for teachers in primary schools across the state. Each local government council will be conducting an individual needs assessment to determine the number of teachers required for their respective areas. This means that the employment numbers will vary from council to council and take into consideration those who have retired from their respective councils.

Moreover, the recruitment plan extends to include watchmen, clerical officers, and other support staff for the Local Government Education Authority, aiming to strengthen the education system in primary schools.

Addressing concerns about the allocation of funds to the local government councils, Hon. Victor Ebonka debunked rumors of a hefty windfall for the month of July. He clarified that the allocation for July was not unusual, though it might be higher than previous years.

In a positive development, the State Chairman assured that all necessary conditions for a N40 billion facility for pension payments have been met. He expressed optimism about accessing the funds in the next month, and upon receiving it, the pensioners will be paid directly. To ensure transparency, forensic experts have been engaged to audit the accounts and ensure that the pensioners receive their rightful dues.
