Chaos Ensues as DSS ReArrest Suspended CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele at Federal High Court in Lagos.
Operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Correctional Services (Prisons) were involved in a dramatic re-arrest of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The incident occurred shortly after the DSS agents physically confronted the Prisons operatives who were attempting to take Emefiele away in accordance with the order of Justice Nicholas Oweibo.

Emefiele had previously been arraigned by the Federal Government and pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of possessing a firearm without a license. Justice Oweibo granted him bail in the amount of N20 million with one surety providing a similar sum.

However, the situation turned tense when Emefiele was unable to leave the courtroom due to the conflict between the DSS and the NCS over custody. The disagreement escalated to the point where the two agencies almost engaged in physical confrontation.

DSS operatives roughed up a Prisons Squadron Commander, pushing him out of the court and tearing his shirt buttons. Meanwhile, armed Prisons officials were reinforced to carry out the court order, but the DSS operatives, present in significant numbers, obstructed the court gates with their vehicles, preventing the Prisons officials from taking custody of Emefiele.
