Sends Warning To Electorates Ahead Of

In anticipation of the upcoming by-elections set for Saturday across 26 states in Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a stern warning, imploring electorates, political parties, and the media to prioritize peace and adherence to electoral regulations.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will oversee the elections aimed at filling vacant political seats in a majority of the country’s states. States such as Ebonyi, Yobe, Kebbi, Lagos, and Ondo, among others, are among those where citizens will cast their votes.

In a statement released on Friday, the DSS emphasized the significance of maintaining a peaceful environment during the electoral process. It called upon voters and political parties to abstain from activities that could potentially disrupt law and order.

“The service wishes to call on the electorate and participating political parties in the 3rd February 2024 re-run and bye-elections to be of good conduct during and after the exercises in the affected states. In this regard, the Service tasks the contending parties to shun all acts capable of causing a breakdown of law and order,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the DSS underscored its commitment to collaborating with INEC and other security agencies to ensure a smooth and secure electoral exercise. The agency urged the media, civil organizations, and public commentators to refrain from divisive actions and spreading false narratives that could jeopardize ’s peace.

“It is inarguable that it is only if there is a livable country that individuals, groups, or corporate bodies can pursue and realize their legitimate businesses and ambitions,” the statement added.
