Edison Ehie Withdraws Lawsuit Against 27 Lawmakers – Latest News Updates & latest Breaking News today.

Edison Ehie, former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Ahoada East Constituency II, has withdrawn his contempt lawsuit against 25 of the 27 members who defected from PDP to APC last year.

Edison Ehie declared the seats of 27 lawmakers vacant.

The controversy arose when Ehie, a close ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, declared the seats of 27 members vacant in December due to their defection from the PDP to the APC.

However, two lawmakers later rejoined the PDP, and the group of five lawmakers loyal to the governor, led by Ehie.

Governor Fubara has been engaged in a political struggle with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister.

Previously, Ehie filed a contempt case against 25 lawmakers at the Rivers State High Court, challenging their meetings and legislative actions. However, in a surprising turn of events, Ehie resigned from the House of Assembly when Governor Fubara and Wike reached a peace agreement.

The claimant’s attorney, Mac-Barango Esq., informed the court of a Notice of Discontinuance submitted by his clients during today’s hearing. He requested the court to implement the notice, which went uncontested by the defendant’s counsel, leading to the case being struck out by the judge.

This unexpected withdrawal hints at a potential resolution and easing of tensions within the Rivers State political landscape.
