“If he leaves office, everyone will know he is not an honest individual. I possess proof against him. Let him resign; I guarantee that within 10 seconds, more than 200 individuals will present evidence of bribes he accepted from them. He is aware of what he asked of me, but I declined.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been made aware of an interview given by Bello Muhammed Matawalle, governor of Zamfara State, to the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, in which he allegedly made outrageous bribery allegations against the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.”

“Matawalle’s mudslinging is indicative of a drowning man grasping for straws. Nevertheless, despite the annoyance of his phantom claims, the Commission will not engage in a mudslinging match with a suspect under investigation for corruption and unconscionable plunder of his state’s resources. If Matawalle wants to be taken seriously, he must go beyond empty threats and reveal the truth; he must provide concrete evidence to support his allegations.
