El-rufai Bans Southern Kaduna Group
With less than twenty-four hours remaining in his term, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has declared the Atyap Community Development Association to be an illegal organisation.
This was stated in a statement released on Sunday by Muyiwa Adekeye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication.
Adekeye, who noted that the state government, in a proscription order, declared that the Atyap Community Development Association has constituted itself as a Society that is hostile to the peace of the State and has been covertly involved in acts that have the potential to endanger the peace, tranquilly, harmonious coexistence, and good governance of Kaduna State.

He stated that the governor signed the proscription order pursuant to the authority granted by Section 60 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law No. 5 of 2017 and Section 5 (2) of the Nigerian Federal Constitution of 1999.
The governor’s office stated that the prohibition order went into effect on May 24, 2023.

Adekeye added, “The proscription order noted that Sections 38 and 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantee all citizens the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, as well as the right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly.”
“It was also noted that Section 45 (1) of the 1999 Constitution vests the Governor with the authority to take measures and actions necessary for the promotion and protection of public safety, public order, public morality or public health, or the rights and freedoms of all persons in Kaduna State.”
The governor vowed over the weekend to continue taking tough measures until the eleventh hour of his administration.
