NLC vows to create ‘hall of shame’ for corrupt judges

On Sunday, the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joseph Ajaero, vowed that the labour union would create a “hall of shame” for judges who undermine the tenets of the judiciary and render absurd decisions on election petitions.

Ajaero, speaking in Abuja alongside members of the Labour and Civil Society Front, emphasised the significance of rescuing the judiciary.

The movement, comprised of numerous civil society and youth organisations, asserted that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s poor performance during the elections had severely damaged the country’s democracy. Additionally, they pledged to name and shame corrupt officials.

Among the movement’s co-conveners were Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, Comrade Shehu Sanni, Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, Professor Udenta Udenta, Salisu Mohammed, and Olawale Okunniyi.

According to the head of the NLC, the judiciary has set numerous states and institutions “ablaze with ridiculous decisions” and must respond to certain questions from Nigerians.

He stated, “The judiciary has so many questions to answer, and if they fail to do so within a short period of time, we will create a hall of shame for those judges who create such problems.

This will occur soon. There is a need for the NBA, all arms of the judiciary, bar benches and all to speak out about what is happening in the judiciary and whether or not the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.

“The fate of is now in our hands. When they tell you to go to court, they are essentially stating that the matter has been resolved. Someone will steal yam and demand court action. On what basis are these assertions made?

This is the level of ridicule that the judiciary has brought upon Nigeria, and as Nigerians, we must all unite to save the judiciary, or there will be no reason to continue going to court.”
