The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has officially announced the death of Lee Andrew Edwards, a former Chicago mobster with reported ties to President Bola Tinubu. The disclosure was made as part of an ongoing freedom of information lawsuit before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington D.C.

The FBI stated in a court filing, “In light of receiving information that appears to confirm Mr Edwards’ death, DEA has begun its search for responsive records pertaining to him.” However, specific details regarding the circumstances and timing of Mr Edwards’ death were not provided in the announcement.
This revelation comes amid the government’s efforts to withhold information related to Bola Tinubu’s alleged involvement in an extensive drug business in Chicago.
Previous documents released by the government implicated both Mr Edwards and Mr Tinubu as prominent members of a drug mafia operating in the northwestern U.S. during the 1980s, with investigators believing that Mr Tinubu held a leadership role in the syndicate.
Despite the release of records concerning Tinubu’s associates, including Lee Andrew Edwards and Adegboyega Mueez Akande, the files were notably edited to exclude Tinubu’s name or any indications of his role.
Transparency activist Aaron Greenspan, who filed the freedom of information lawsuit, accused the FBI of downplaying the volume of records related to President Tinubu in their possession.
Greenspan argued that the FBI has not conducted a thorough search and is underrepresenting the number of responsive pages to his request. He urged the court to compel the FBI to promptly and comprehensively release records explicitly featuring Tinubu’s name and role.
