Holds Summit with , TUC to Address Protest Plans

The Federal Government is currently in talks with the leadership of Organised Labour concerning the scheduled nationwide protest set for Tuesday and Wednesday.

As reported by Television Continental (TVC), the meeting involves the government, the , and the and is taking place in Abuja.

Recall that Joe Ajaero, the National President of NLC, had announced a two-day nationwide mass protest to address the ongoing hardship faced by Nigerians.

However, the TUC decided not to participate in the two-day nationwide protest, citing the failure of the NLC to involve the union before making the announcement.

Furthermore, a total of 65 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) under the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations Forum have withdrawn from the planned nationwide protest.

It’s worth noting that the leaders of organised labour and government representatives reached a Memorandum of Understanding on October 2, 2023, after a 16-point agreement was made.

The agreement aimed at addressing the public’s suffering due to fuel subsidy removal and finding lasting solutions to issues such as the devaluation of the naira, inflation, and insecurity.

During a media briefing, Ajaero accused the Federal Government of failing to implement the agreement reached in October.
