Former NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Maigida, slumps and dies in Abuja

 

Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, the previous Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has passed away.

 

According to reports, Maigida collapsed and died in Abuja on April 2, 2023.

Former DOPRI Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu confirmed the on his Facebook page, writing, “I join the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and men, and DOPRI personnel in mourning the loss of Air Commodore Wap Maigida. A trustworthy subordinate to his superiors and a benevolent superior to his subordinates.”

 

On January 6, 2023, the deceased succeeded his predecessor, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who is now the Commander of the 551 NAF Station in Jos.

Coincidentally, Air Commodore Maigida transferred command of NAF Station Jos to Air Commodore Gabkwet.

Maigida was also a former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to former Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep.

The officer, who was a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, is the 18th DOPRI (NIPR).

Air Cdre Wapkerem Maigida, a member of the 42nd Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force in 1995.

 

The senior officer holds a Master of Science in Security and Strategic Studies as well as a Bachelor of Arts in History, both from the National Defense Academy.
